LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– A man is now charged with arson in connection to an apartment fire in Lexington.
It happened around 11 p.m. Sunday on Dinsmore Drive.
Firefighters say a witness spotted smoke coming from a second floor unit.
When crews got there, no one was home, but the door was open and there was trash burning in the kitchen.
Police arrested the tenant, 52-year-old Robert Shepherd, Wednesday afternoon.
An investigation determined that he allegedly disabled his smoke detector and set the fire on purpose.
Investigators say the motive could have been a possible eviction.
Shepherd is facing one count of first-degree arson and was cited for failure to appear.
