LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Investigators are trying to figure out what caused an apartment fire in Lexington.

It happened just after 11 p.m. Sunday on Dinsmore Drive near the intersection of Richmond Road and New Circle.

Fire officials say a witness saw smoke coming from a unit on the second floor.

Firefighters say when they arrived at the apartment no one was home but the door was open and they found trash burning in the kitchen. There is moderate damage to the kitchen area.

The arson investigator was called to the scene.
