LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — For more than a month, telehealth has become the norm for anyone seeking medical or therapy services. A pediatric therapy clinic in Lexington is seeing great results with virtual appointments.

Kresta Wilson started Wilson Pediatric Therapy in 2013, a passion of hers that was further ignited for her personally.

"It's always been in my heart to help kids," said Wilson.

She's a speech therapist, and her son has needed therapy as a child. Wilson Pediatric Therapy offers occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and they have a dyslexia evaluation and treatment program. For six weeks now, all therapy has been done virtually.

"Our therapists have been amazing. The parents have been amazing. It's been a challenge for both sides to get creative, but the sessions have gone really well," Wilson said.

We got to visit in on a virtual physical therapy session with almost three-year-old Darcy Karnes. Her mom Chloe says Darcy was 14 months old when she was diagnosed with Spinal Muscle Atrophy.

"She was just getting weaker each day, from about a year on," says Karnes.

It was during one of Darcy's recent telehealth therapy sessions that she hit a huge milestone.

"I wish you could have seen the look on her face, as we were just shocked. She went from not doing it at all to walking across the room with her crutches. She's actually made several gains," Karnes says.

All parties involved can't wait to get to meet in person again.

"We miss the kids a lot!" says Wilson.

Wilson Pediatric Therapy will start to see some patients at the clinic for evaluations starting May 4, but most visits will still be through the computer screen.
