LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Restaurants in Kentucky are preparing to open to limited capacity seating on May 22. It will be another big change for the businesses who have not been able to serve customers inside for two months.

Lexington restaurant Agave and Rye is soon to celebrate one year in business. The Fayette Mall location is the second for the restaurant, which is all about unique, fresh food.

“We're able to put a spin on a lot of different cultural foods,” said general manager Payton Caines.

They’re known for their tequila and bourbon selections, hence the name.

“Agave, being one of the main ingredients in tequila, and rye being associated with whiskeys,” says Caines.

The big, over stuffed tacos and the freshly juiced drinks have only been available by means of delivery or take out for a couple of months now, but that’s about to change. Canines says they’ve adjusted staffing to limit people inside the restaurant and they’ve acquired the needed protective gear like masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer to open May 22.

During the time Agave and Rye was closed to serving customers inside, they found ways to help give back and help those on the front lines.

“We were able to donate thousands of gloves to healthcare workers and encourage other companies to do that as well,” Caines says.

The company hoped to make the most of a time when not much was ideal.
