Remember Fruit Gushers?! The liquid-filled fruit snacks from General Mills were a mainstay of 1990s snack culture, but you won’t often catch an adult snacking on them these days (unless they’re casually borrowing some from their kid). That’s partly because they’re not very grown-up. But you have to admit — they were pretty yummy back in the day.
Well, believe it or not, there are basically Gushers for adults. Welch’s released a line of chewy fruit snacks that are filled with liquid fruit flavors, just like, yes, Gushers. But Welch’s version, called Juicefuls, is packed with real fruit puree, so they’re a bit more wholesome. Also, they reportedly offer a more elevated eating experience, according to one reviewer on Instagram.
“Imagine gushers but better,” user @foodiewiththebeasts wrote. “They don’t stick to your teeth, and are filled with so much flavor. If you’ve ever had welchs gummies than you know!”
The user added that you can find Juicefuls at 7-Eleven, where two flavors are available: Berry Blast and Island Splash. Berry Blast includes blueberry, raspberry, strawberry and cherry, while Island Splash consists of kiwi, pineapple, mango, strawberry and passionfruit.
Delish reports that although the individual packs of those two flavors are exclusive to 7-Eleven, you can find six-packs of flavors such as Mixed Fruit and Berry Blast at other grocery stores such as H-E-B.
Actually, Welch’s Juicefuls are not entirely new. Welch’s mother company, Promotion In Motion Inc., previously introduced Juicefuls fruit snacks under their own brand name in 2012. So when purchasing them through sites like Instacart, you may not see them pictured with the Welch’s name. They were originally released in Fruit Wave, Berry Mania and Strawberry Blast flavors.
Since Welch’s started out as a juice company and is now famous for their gummies as well, branching out into a puree-filled fruit snack only makes sense. The company has also released other ingenious fruity concoctions, including alcohol-free mimosas in a bottle and even pre-cut frozen avocados.
If you can’t get your hands on the Juicefuls, there are other ways to relive your childhood through a sweet snack — and you can create them at home. Try making a throwback recipe, like this Pop-Tart pie for grownups, which you can make in strawberry or s’mores flavors. Or experiment with a strawberry Jell-O pie (no baking required). If Fruit Roll-Ups were your thing, there’s a recipe for that, too.
We may be healthier and more mature than we were as children, but that doesn’t mean we can’t indulge in a little nostalgia sometimes!
