Don’t forget to set your clocks forward one hour this evening before going to sleep. Daylight saving time begins at 2:00 a.m. Sunday, March 8th.
Most clocks will set themselves, like smart phones, tablets, and smart watches. However, you might need to change the clocks on your stove, microwave, oven, etc. Don’t forget about the clock in your car! This is the time of the year where you could be late to something if you go by a clock that hasn’t changed for DST.
Daylight saving time is also a good time to check the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Change batteries if needed. Also, if you haven’t done so in a while, change the air filter on your HVAC system.
Contrary to popular belief, we do not lose or gain an hour of sunlight when we cross into daylight saving time. The "delayed" sunset tomorrow night is only an illusion based on the fact that we are sitting one hour ahead of the previous day. Though the sun will set an hour later tomorrow night, we have only gained about two and a half minutes of daylight from the previous day.
