We are now into Christmas Eve and we've seen some good amounts of rain overnight as this winter storm is just getting started. Expect temperatures to fall behind the cold front which will change the leftover rain to sleet or a mix by mid morning. Once into the afternoon, mostly snow is expected but a lot of the moisture will be out of central KY at that time. More snow is expected to move east into the mountains through tonight. As temperatures free fall later this morning, a flash freeze on the roads is possible. The places that will freeze first will be bridges and overpasses so use extra caution there.
Snow totals are not impressive for the Bluegrass region and west of I75 as most will stay around 1 inch or less. There will be a spot here and there that could make it to 2 inches further south. Eastern KY will see a gradual increase in snow totals moving from I75 to the mountains. Two to four inches will be most likely around Jackson and West Liberty. Mountain tops are more apt to see a bit more. The system will wrap up as snow flurries or showers off and on tonight and a few into Christmas Day, but the worst of tomorrow will be the bitter cold. High temperatures for Friday will be in the low 20s and wind will make it feel even colder. Wind chills could dip all the way down to 5 degrees early in the morning. Santa will be right in his element! Stay aware of changing weather conditions and be safe. Merry Christmas!
