The LEX 18 Winter Threat Index remains at a Level 1. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for a good chunk of central and eastern Kentucky through mid-day.

Snow will continue to fall and accumulate this morning. Minor accumulations on the order of a couple of inches will be possible through lunchtime. We are also monitoring a bubble of “warmer” air that is heading our way. As the milder air lifts northward snow will change over a cold rain. Areas near Lake Cumberland will be the transition first then spots to the northeast. Pockets of a wintry mix will be possible as the changeover occurs. Starting late this afternoon a shield of cold rain will take over the Bluegrass as the center of this slow-moving winter storm tracks into the Tennessee Valley. The rain will melt a good deal of the snow that we accumulated earlier in the day. Rain will continue overnight before tapering off late Sunday.
