Hello summer! For the second straight day temperatures have peaked near 80°. We are tracking an even warmer day Thursday with highs in the low to mid 80s. The heat will peak tomorrow before we transition to an unsettled set-up.
A cold front that has been sweeping across the nation’s midsection will reach the Commonwealth on Friday. Shower and storm chances will be on the rise for Oaks. The good news is the front will be weakening so there won’t be as great of a risk for severe weather. However, a few gusty storms can’t be completely ruled out. The question will then become how far south will the front go before it stalls? That will be the deciding factor between a soggy or drier Derby Day. Earlier this week it looked like the front would put the brakes on over Tennessee. The trend has changed today with the front now seeming to wobble over the Commonwealth. We have put a small chance for showers and thundershowers back in the forecast for Saturday.
