Motorized Pool Tubes Let You Race Through The Water

Even if you never make it to the water park this summer, you can still have plenty of fun in the water. These new motorized pool tubes allow you to race across any backyard pool or lake — who needs water slides, anyway?

The motorized pool tube, called the Tube Runner, has a “joystick-controlled electric Kort nozzle,” which is the same propeller used in tugboats. The tubes can move in any direction, including full circles. Use them to race your kids from one end of the pool to the other, or hurry over to the side of the pool to grab another beer. They do come with a built-in drink holder and a headrest, making it easy to just never leave the pool.

The tubes cost $129.95 each from Hammacher Schlemmer. You can use a regular air pump to blow them up, and six D batteries keep the propeller going.

If you prefer more of a recliner shape, there are also other motorized pool floats that allow you to stretch your legs out in peace.

Of course, in order to make use of these pool tubes, you’ll have to actually have access to a pool to use. If you don’t already have a pool in your yard, building one can be expensive, but there are a few creative ways to install one without spending an arm and a leg by using stock tanks, hay bales or wooden pallets.

Then again, you could also avoid the hassle entirely by simply renting someone else’s pool. An app called Swimply is basically the Airbnb for swimming pools, allowing you to rent a pool by the hour for a private, affordable swimming experience.

You can also use these pool floats for a trip to the lake or a friend’s pool. These motorized tubes will definitely add a bit of momentum to those lazy summer days, and you’ll never have to awkwardly paddle your way around again.
