This first month of meteorological summer was a bit all of over the map. We had some prime summertime heat and humidity, what seemed like never ending rain and storms, and chilly mornings for late spring. Let’s take a look back at what was the month of June in Lexington.
There were wild temperature swings the last 30 days. The final three days of the month were the hottest with highs of 91°. Meanwhile during the middle of the month things took a chilly turn. On June 14th we woke up to a reading of 45°. It all evened out in the end. This June was a fairly normal month for us.
Up until three days ago, Lexington had not recorded a 90-degree high in the month of June. This would have been the first June since 2004 to not have a high of at least 90 degrees. The first 90-degree day typically occurs by June 13th. We had already recorded two days in late May. Our season total now stands at five with more expected in the early days of July.
Then there were the relentless showers and storms…
Lexington had 10 consecutive days of measurable rainfall between June 16th and 25th. This tied a June record. A total of 18 days this month had measurable rainfall. We ended up with 7.44″ of rain. That’s three inches above our monthly average, and good enough for the 11th wettest June. The year-to-date total is just under 31 inches. At this time last year we had already picked up 33.71″.
