Keeneland Opening Weekend

Posted

Tomorrow kicks off the opening weekend for Keeneland and what a day it will be. So often we’ve had first days of spring/fall meets be met with rain or cold, but the beginning of spring meet is looking prime, mostly.

Thursday:
Opening Day!
Jockey Autograph Signing
First Post Time: 3:00 PM

Opening day will be met with a good looking forecast. Temperatures in the early afternoon will be running right around 70 degrees. As the final race is setting off you’ll still be feeling air in the mid-60s with only clouds overhead. A few breaks with sunshine are possible through the day, but overall it will be cloudy. The rain looks to hold off until the late evening so you should be good to leave the rain jacket at home unless you plan to attend Thursday Night Live and stay till the end.

Central Bank Thursday Night Live at Keeneland
Time: 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

In case you haven’t heard, TNL starts off the season at Keeneland this year and the weather should line up nicely for it. Once again, we stay mostly dry and just cloudy through the performance. A few sprinkles may show up as the band is finishing its set but it could also hold off. A light rain jacket wouldn’t be a bad idea just in case. Temperatures will lower from near 70 down into the mid-60s.

Friday:
College Scholarship Day
First Post Time: 1:05 PM

Friday will be the “problem day” out of the bunch. Rain showers will be around most of the morning and early afternoon thanks to a passing low-pressure system. Rumbles of thunder are possible into the afternoon and if it’s not raining, it’ll be damp and cloudy. As the day goes on, rain will taper and will finish by the evening. Temperatures will remain in the 60s through the event.

Saturday:
Toyota Blue Grass Stakes
First Post Time: 1:05 PM

This will be “The” day. The day that everyone will want to be at Keeneland. Not only is it the first Saturday of Keeneland, but it is also the Blue Grass Stakes and on top of that, the weather is going to be wonderful. We will kick off the post with temperatures just a bit above 70 degrees. Humidity will be down making it comfortable, and skies will be showing more sunshine. As the final races are being run, temperatures hover around the low 70s and it will look and feel nice. Expect a big crowd this day!

Sunday:
Kids Club Family Day
First Post Time: 1:05 PM

Sunday is another mostly nice day. Clouds will be around along with a small chance for showers, especially with the later races. Otherwise, temperatures continue to warm into the mid-70s for the races, so box seats will be a nice place for the races.
