We’re not expecting any snow this year for Thanksgiving. Instead we’re expecting partly cloudy and chilly. Not too bad. However, some years in Lexington, travelers were not so lucky. That being said, snowfalls on Thanksgiving Day is pretty rare.
The total number of times flakes have fallen enough to say it “snowed” is 21 times. That includes both measurable snowfall (0.10”+) and trace amounts (<0.10”). If you just count measurable precipitation it’s only eight days! That eight days out of 145! Granted, 15 years of that are missing, but it’s still pretty rare.
The last time Lexington had measurable snow on Turkey Day was 65 years ago. 0.80” of snow fell in 1953. The most snow ever recorded on Thanksgiving Day was in 1938 with a total of 4.2.”
Can you imaging that travel nightmare?
