CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was in Clark County recently talking about the legalization of hemp products.

The Republican senator was invited to GenCanna’s Hemp Research Campus in Winchester.

He explained how he successfully passed a bill to get hemp off the U.S. Department of Justice’s list of controlled substances.

“I think if you look at where we are on the legalization of industrial hemp, we’re sort of in the red zone,” McConnell said. “There are some additional steps that need to be taken. That’s part of what this learning session is about.”

Federal legalization of hemp promises to be a massive boost to Kentucky’s economy and farming industry. Many believe the commonwealth already is, and will continue to be, leading the nation’s charge on industrial hemp.
