EKU’S Aaron Ochsenbein Chosen First Team All-Region

RICHMOND, Ky. – Former Eastern Kentucky University closer Aaron Ochsenbein was selected to the 2019 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division I South All-Region First Team, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The Lexington, Kentucky native was one of two relief pitchers chosen to the first team.  The South Region, one of the most talent-laden in the nation, includes teams from the Southeastern Conference, the American Athletic Conference, the Ohio Valley Conference, Conference USA, the Atlantic Sun Conference and the Southern Conference.

Also this month, Ochsenbein was drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, selected as one of six finalists for the 15th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award, selected as a second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and was chosen as an honorable mention Perfect Game/Rawlings College All-American.

Ochsenbein was selected first team All-Ohio Valley Conference this season after posting a 5-2 record with a program best 0.83 ERA and 10 saves.  The 6-foot-3, 225-pound right-hander struck out 90 batters in 54 and one-third innings.  He allowed just five runs, 24 hits and 16 walks.

Ochsenbein ranked second in the OVC in appearances, sixth in strikeouts and second in saves.  He ranked 44th in the nation in saves and 50th in appearances.
