Morehead St. Women Visit Ohio State in WNIT First Round

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State women’s basketball team will play Ohio State in the first round of the 2019 Women’s National Invitation Tournament the tournament committee announced Monday evening.

The Eagles will travel to Columbus, Ohio to face the Buckeyes at Value City Arena on Wednesday. Tipoff time and ticket information will be announced Tuesday.

The Eagles finished the 2018-19 season with the second-most win in program history on their way to finishing 23-10 overall and 13-5 against OVC competition on their way to qualifying for the WNIT. It is just the second time in the program’s history of qualifying for the postseason event – the last coming during the 2016-17 campaign.

“Our Girls are excited to be playing the WNIT, “said Morehead State head coach Greg Todd. “We knew we would be on the road and Ohio State is a good matchup for us. We know there will be no easy games on the road in the event and we look forward to the challenge.”

The Buckeyes finished an even 14-14 overall and finished fifth in the Big Ten with a 10-8 league record. OSU is coached by Kevin McGuff who is in his sixth season.

The WNIT is an annual tournament involving 64 of the nation’s top Division I teams. All games are hosted by participating schools in the single-elimination tournament.

When the Eagles competed in the 2017 WNIT, they faced off with Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The team dropped a 67-58 effort to MTSU led by Miranda Crockett’s 11 points to conclude a 21-10 season.

Morehead State has now won at least 20 games in three consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
