RICHMOND, Ky. – After finishing the season with a 7-4 record, the Eastern Kentucky University football team will find out Sunday if the program has earned its 22nd playoff appearance.

The selection show for the NCAA Division I Football Championship will air live on ESPNU at 12:30 p.m. ET.  Eastern Kentucky owns the second-most playoff appearances.  Only Montana (23) has more.

The 24-team field will include 10 teams that received automatic qualification by winning their conference championship.  The Colonels hope to be one of 14 at large selections chosen by the championship committee.

There are 125 NCAA schools that compete in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).  EKU is one of 27 teams to win seven or more games against Division I teams this season.

In its Nov. 11th Bracketology, CollegeSportsMadness.com predicted that Eastern would make the field and face Towson in the first round.  NoBowls.com has EKU listed among the “Next Four Out” in the release of its Bracketology on Nov. 11.

The Eastern Kentucky University football program features the “Best Tradition In FCS Football”, having won two national championships, 21 conference titles and made 21 playoff appearances.  No other FCS team has won at least two FCS national titles and 20 or more conference championships.  EKU has had 66 All-America selections and 33 NFL draft picks.

Eight, first round games will be played on campus sites on Saturday, Nov. 24.  The winning team from each game will advance to the second round.  The second round of the playoffs will be played on Dec. 1.  The quarterfinals are scheduled for Dec. 7 and 8.  The semifinals will be held Dec. 14 and 15.  The 2019 NCAA Division I Championship Game will be contested in Frisco, Texas on Jan. 5.
