American Pharoah Sire Pioneerof The Nile Dies Unexpectedly At 13

(Courier-Journal) — The Courier-Journal is reporting that the stallion who sired Triple Crown-winner American Pharoah died Monday.

Pioneerof The Nile, who was 13, was en route to a clinic when he died. WinStar Farm said he bred a mare Monday morning.

The Thoroughbred was a second-place finisher in the 2009 Kentucky Derby.
