For the first time in nearly a calendar year, the Georgetown College men's basketball team has fallen in defeat.
Thomas More upset the No. 1 Tigers 73-71 Thursday night at Davis-Reid Gymnasium, where GC had won 37 straight.
The Saints led by as much as 11 in the second half, and even led by 8 points with under a minute to go.
The Tigers did climb back, making it a 70-69 game with 17 seconds to play following a Jacob Conway three-pointer.
After trading some free throws, GC still had a chance with six seconds to play. Down by two, the Tigers forced a jump ball with 3.8 secs to play trailing 73-71. On the ensuing inbounds pass, Chris Coffey (11 points, 10 rebounds) couldn't get the equalizing bucket.
Eljay Cowherd had a game high 26 points. Jake Ohmer had 16 points.
It was Georgetown's first loss since February 14th, 2019. The Tigers will visit the University of the Cumberlands on February 13th at 8 p.m.
