The Barbasol Championship added four golfers to the field following its open qualifier, which was held on Monday at Boone’s Trace National Golf Club in Richmond.

Of the 48 in Monday’s field, Ryan Wenzler owned the top qualifying spot after he just missed the course record by a stroke, posting a 10-under-par 62. Through his first eight holes, the Dayton, Ohio, native was 7-under par and ultimately made the turn with a 29 on his scorecard, which propelled him to a new career-low score.

Former UNLV golfer John Oda sealed his spot for the week following his 64, while Domenico Geminiani, of Bradenton, Fla., qualified for the field with a 66. New Jersey’s Kevin Foley shot 67 and claimed the fourth and final qualifying spot after being the last man standing in a seven-man playoff.

Youth Shootout

Some of Kentucky’s top high school golfers will get a unique experience and a chance to pick up some tips at this week’s Barbasol Championship, as they’ll be paired up with PGA TOUR pros for a High School Shootout at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Playing a four-hole, better-ball-of-two shootout on the tournament course, each junior golfer and his or her professional teammate will play the first four holes.

“Opportunities like this don’t come every day,” Champions head professional Brad Hicks said. “At the Barbasol Championship, we look forward to making this an annual event for aspiring high school golfers looking to play at the next level.”
