BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University senior forward Nick Mayo has been voted first team All-Ohio Valley Conference for the fourth consecutive year, the league announced on Tuesday.

Freshman guard Jomaru Brown, meanwhile, was voted to the five-person OVC All-Newcomer Team.

Mayo is only the second player in the 71-year history of the OVC to be named first team all-conference four times. Western Kentucky’s Ralph Crosthwaite (1954-59) is the other.

Mayo ranked second in the OVC and 10th in the country in scoring (23.7 points-per-game) during the regular season. He also led the OVC in free throw percentage (86.4%), tied for second in blocks-per-game (1.8) and ranked fourth in rebounds-per-game (8.7).

The 6-9 forward from Oakland, Maine opened the season with 26 points and a career-high 15 rebounds versus Marshall. He followed that up with a career-high 40 points and 12 rebounds in a road win at Chattanooga on November 10. He scored 27 of those 40 points in the final 10 minutes of the game. Mayo closed out November by hanging 23 points and nine boards at then-No. 6 Tennessee.

Mayo opened December by scoring 30 points and hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer to beat High Point on the road. Seven days later, he had 27 points and 11 rebounds and hit another buzzer-beat to lift the Colonels past Northern Kentucky at McBrayer Arena.

On December 15, Mayo posted 25 points, six rebounds and five steals at Xavier. In doing so, he moved past Matt Witt to become EKU’s all-time leading scorer.

Mayo averaged 23.9 points and 8.8 rebounds-per-game during OVC play. He nearly led EKU to a big road upset at Murray State on January 5, scoring 36 points and pulling down nine boards. Other notable conference performances included 33 points and 11 rebounds at SIUE (February 2), 32 points and 11 boards at Morehead State (February 14), 26 points and 12 rebounds at home versus Murray State (February 16), 32 points and 14 boards at Jacksonville State (February 23), 31 points and nine rebounds in a critical win over Austin Peay (February 28) and 27 points and seven rebounds in the season finale against Morehead State (March 2).

Mayo finished his career fifth on the OVC’s all-time scoring list and 145th on the NCAA’s all-time scoring list with 2,316 points.

Brown ranked seventh in the OVC in scoring during conference play at 16.9 points-per-game. That number led all freshmen in the league.

The 6-2 guard out of Raleigh, North Carolina also ranked second in the OVC in steals during the regular season with 60.

He emerged on the scene with a 21-point performance in the win over Kennesaw State at the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam on November 19. A week later, he went for 14 points, six rebounds, a career-high six steals and three assists at then-No. 6 Tennessee.

Brown opened OVC play with a 26-point performance at Austin Peay on January 3. On January 10, he poured in 24 points on the road at Tennessee State.

Brown closed out the season on fire. He dropped 30 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead EKU to a 75-65 home win over Tennessee State on February 9. He had 17 points and a career-high nine assists in the win over Austin Peay on February 28. He closed out the season with a career-high 31 points versus rival Morehead State on March 2.

Brown averaged 14.4 points-per-game over the whole season.

He was voted OVC Freshman of the Week three times.
