Lexington, Ky (LEX 18) – The Scott County Cardinals saw its season end with a loss to Male 37-20 in the Class 6A State Championship Saturday night at Kroger Field.

The game was delayed due to severe weather as the game resumed around 9pm.

Scott County was in a hole early, after Male forced a safety for the games first score. The Bulldogs would then march down the field and capitalize on a short touchdown run by quarterback Garrett Dennis.

The Cardinals would get on the board later in the second quarter after a touchdown run by Bronson Brown, one of his three touchdowns on the night.

Dennis would find the end zone again in the second quarter to extend Male’s lead to 16-7, and he would once again find the end zone near the end of the half to put Scott Co. in a 23-7 deficit at halftime.

The Cardinals didn’t cave, they marched down the field on their opening possession in the third quarter with another touchdown run by Brown to trim the deficit to 23-13.

But Dennis was too much for the Cardinal defense, as he had 4 touchdowns on the night, winning the game’s MVP as Male went on to win 37-20 to win its first state championship since 2015.
