RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University quarterback Parker McKinney earned honorable mention recognition for National Freshman of the Week from STATS on Monday.
The Coalfield, Tennessee native helped the Colonels to a 37-6 win at Tennessee Tech on Saturday, in just his third collegiate game and second-ever start.
EKU concluded its season with a 7-4 record and just missed out on the program’s 22nd playoff appearance.
McKinney finished 31-of-42 for 333 yards and threw two touchdown passes without an interception. He also gave Eastern the lead for good with a second quarter, 3-yard touchdown run.
On the scoring run, McKinney rolled to the right, tucked the ball, broke a tackle and reached the corner of the end zone.
The Colonels put the game away early in the third quarter. McKinney capped off a 5-play drive with a fourth down, 8-yard pass to Daryl McCleskey Jr. He hit Dan Paul from 11 yards out for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
McKinney’s 333 yards were the most by an EKU quarterback since Bennie Coney threw for 365 yards at Tennessee State on Oct. 15, 2016.
