VERSAILES, Ky. (LEX 18) — During a time when retailers and companies are looking for ways to protect their employees and customers from COVID 19, Ruggles Sign Company is trying to do its part to help.
President Tim Cambron says his staff is now making sneeze guards, a clear acrylic shield often used on counters, to help stop the spread of germs. Cambron says his designers created their version of a sneeze guard after a customer, DHL shipping, asked for help.
"They reached out and said, Hey we have a need for a sneeze guard can you help us?" said Cambron.
In about 24 hours, they put together a prototype and produced 120 sneeze guards for the company.
Now Ruggles Sign Company is in the process of making hundreds more.
"We had NIKE reach out, DSW reach out and even the folks at KFC reached out," Cambron said.
Most of his 100 employees are working from home, but a skeleton staff is able to fill all the orders. Cambron says they're continuing to make regular retail signs, but for now, are happy to help a country in crisis.
"I think it's more about what the new normal is going to be once all this passes. When people start showing back up at stores and restaurants, what is it going to look like? I think you may see more of these sneeze guards," Cambron said.
"It's not about money, it's about helping people," said Cambron. " If we can do something to help rid the world of this virus, that's what we're all about."
