WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police in Whitley County are now calling a report of CBD gummies found in Halloween candy "an isolated incident."

The Williamsburg Police Department first posted a warning to parents on Saturday evening shortly after trick-or-treating wrapped up.

The initial post on their Facebook page encouraged parents to check their kids' candy bags after CBD gummies were reportedly passed out as candy. According to the department's Facebook post, the gummies were in a clear package, like the one pictured in this article, with a strong smell of marijuana.

Late Saturday night the department put out an updated post, saying they believed the tainted candy was an isolated incident.

The Facebook post says, "After sharing a photo of generically packaged gummies that parents were reporting as suspicious, WPD obtained some of the candies. None had a marijuana-like door about them. Whitley Co. E911 has received reports that candies wrapped in plastic like that pictured on the WPD Facebook page are available for purchase at a local store. WPD has not been able to verify that."

Officers continues to investigate and encourage parents always to be cautious.
