FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Fayette County woman is now out of $30,000 after falling victim to a scam.

According to the State Attorney General's office, someone called the woman last week and claimed to be an Internal Revenue Security officer.

The victim wired money to a Chicago Bank because she thought it would clear up an alleged suspended Social Security number issues and avoid jail.

By the time she realized something was not right, it was too late.

The Attorney General's office said this is a good reminder to hang up on anyone who asks for your Social Security number or to confirm it.
