(LEX 18) — Eddie Sutton was one of nine enshrinees inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Sutton coached college basketball for 37 years before retiring in 2008.
He was the head coach at Kentucky from 1985-1989 and went 90-40 during his tenure. He resigned as head coach in 1989 while Kentucky was under investigation by the NCAA for infractions.
Sutton was the first coach to take four schools to the NCAA Tournament. He led Arkansas (1978) and Oklahoma St. (1995 and 2004) to Final Four appearances as well. He resigned from Oklahoma St. in February of 2005 after a drunk-driving accident.
With 806 career wins, Sutton is the only coach with at least 800 wins to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
