Sunday night shooting injures 7 in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington police are investigating a shooting that injured seven people Sunday night at a cookout in honor of Kenneth Bottoms, police said.

Bottoms, 17, was the victim of a fatal shooting inside of Fayette Mall on Aug. 23.

Police said officers were dispatched at about 9 p.m. to the area of Upper, Fifth, and Toner streets for a report that shots were fired into a crowd that had gathered near the basketball courts.

Upon arrival, officers found a man with a gunshot wound outside the Dunbar Community Center.

Additional victims were transported by private vehicles to local hospitals.

Police said they believe the shots came from multiple suspects firing into the crowd from a vehicle.

One victim is in critical condition. Police said the other six are believed to have nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police said they do not yet have a good description of the vehicle involved in the shooting, and are asking anyone with information to contact them.
