WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Wolfe County student is in custody after authorities say he brought a weapon to school.
The superintendent said that officials with the school district received a tip from a parent that a handgun was missing from a home.
Within minutes, the superintendent said that they located the student in question, searched his backpack, and found a .380 handgun inside.
The student was taken into custody and will face charges, but those charges have not yet been announced. The superintendent tells LEX 18's Mike Valente that the student was cooperative with officials and he does not believe the student intended to hurt anyone.
The school was on a brief lockdown as the building was searched for other weapons. After they were given an "all clear," classes resumed as normal.
