One person in custody after pedestrian hit, killed by driver on Russell Cave Road

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A driver crossed the center line on Russell Cave Road in Lexington Thursday morning hitting and killing a 58-year-old pedestrian.

The driver, identified by police as 30-year-old Kristopher Burden, also hit a house where his car came to rest before he fled the scene.

Police found a woman in the car with minor injuries when they arrived at the scene at about 6:15 a.m. Thursday.

While police, firefighters, and the coroner investigated, a portion of Russell Cave Road and Kees Road was shut down.

"I don't see anything that indicates where the individual (pedestrian) was," Ginn said. "I do see some marks from where the car came across the line there and came into the yard because the vehicle's obviously traveling inbound. But the position that the deceased -- we know that he was thrown several feet."

Lexington police told LEX 18 they took Burden into custody. He's charged with Leaving the Scene Of Accident, Operating Vehicle With Expired Operators License, No Registration Plates, and Failure Of Owner To Maintain Required Insurance 1st.

Burden was transported to the Fayette County Detention Center.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has identified the 58-year-old pedestrian as Juan Naranjo.

The Lexington Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this crash. Additional charges may be possible.
