LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A jury is being selected in the retrial of a man accused in taking part in the death of a man outside of a Lexington bar.
Dawan Mulazim is accused of shooting and killing Marine Jonathon Price outside of Lexington's Austin City Saloon in June of 2014. During the initial trial, the jury came back with no verdict but the state is hoping for a different result this time.
The selection process is expected to take most of the day as the Commonwealth is determined to add murder to Mulazim's lengthy rap sheet.
Over a year ago, Mulazim and Qunincino Canada were tried for the murder of Price. Both were hit with a plethora of other charges but neither were charged with the murder. Canada was sentenced to 50 years in prison for robbing three people at the Quality Inn in 2014. He was also sentenced to 20 years in Louisville for a different robbery. He was, however, acquitted of Price's murder.
Mulazim is also facing 60 years for robbery but prosecutors are back in court as they begin the process of retrying the suspect for murder.
The trial is scheduled to take place for the next four weeks.
