GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) — A robocall went out to parents of students at Great Crossing High School in Scott County notifying them that a student brought a weapon to school.
The discovery was made around 1 p.m. Police received a tip that a student was in possession of handgun. Officers and GCHS staff immediately began to investigate. Within minutes, the individual was located, searched, disarmed and taken into custody.
The gun was discovered in the student's pants. The gun was .380 caliber handgun and was loaded.
Georgetown police have taken a 15-year-old male student into custody in relation to the incident. The school board is working with the department on the investigation.
A spokesperson with Scott County schools say they took all necessary steps to address the situation immediately. Parents were quickly notified with a robocall and a letter will also be sent home with students.
