OWENSBORO, Ky. (LEX 18) — An Owensboro priest said a man walked into his church and stole a purse with more than $500 in cash and valuables. That's when he took off and chased the man down.

Police said that Jeffrey Woods slipped into the Parish Hall and stole one of the parishioner's purses.

But, the persistent priest did not let up and finally caught Woods more than a mile away.

Now, Father Kalombo said he is making plans to add an extra message at this Sunday's mass.

"Their pastor is going to take care of them no matter what the danger, the problem, or anything that's coming. I'm going to stand and protect them," said Father Jean Rene Kalombo.

A few months ago, Woods was accused of stealing a child's backpack off the front porch of a home.

Woods now faces several charges.
