SOMERSET, Ky. (LEX 18) — The owner of a Somerset Photography studio is taking to Facebook to, in her words, "promote love over hate." Lacy Hilliard owns Wandering Elm Photography.
She recently put an ad in the local Money Saver publication to promote her business. This past Saturday Hilliard said she received a troubling voicemail over the ad which showed several couples including a gay couple.
The unidentified caller left a message that said in part, "I really hope this is a mistake in the top left corner that looks to be a homosexual couple embracing each other. If you think this is going to fly in Somerset, you're wrong."
It was a number I didn't recognize, but from the transcript of the call you could see words like homosexual, abomination," Hilliard said of the voicemail.
With the permission of the couple at the center of the call, Hilliard shared the message on her Facebook page to share a message of love. It has so far been shared hundreds of times.
"I want to make sure my ad is inclusive," Hilliard noted. "All people are welcomed at my studio regardless of race, color, sexual orientation any of that."
LEX 18 spoke to one of the women in the photo. She told us she is overwhelmed by the support being shown to Hilliard and hopes others will see love as love.
Hilliard said she doesn't intend to hurt or embarrass the caller of the voicemail, her only wish is to open the person's heart and eyes to people who are different than her.
