FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — One man is dead after an accident at the Montaplast of North America manufacturing plant in Frankfort on Saturday.

According to the Franklin County Coroner, one person was taken from the plastic fabricator plant to Frankfort Regional Medical Center before being taken to UK Hospital in Lexington.

Just before 8 a.m., the coroner confirmed the person died at UK hospital as a result of multiple crushing injuries at Montaplast.

The person was identified as 47-year-old Gregory Dever, and his death is being investigated as an accident, per the coroner.

This is the third fatal accident to occur at the Montaplast facility in Frankfort in the last decade.

LEX 18 initially reported the death of two people at the plant in October 2016.

35-year-old Angel Mitchell died following an injury involving a crane. Days later, 23-year-old Benjamin Cermak was electrocuted.

According to OSHA data, on average, 15 people in the United States die at work every day.

Rena Harrington, president of United Support & Memorial for Workplace Fatalities, said most of these deaths are avoidable.

"Almost 100 percent of them are preventable. And the reason these things happen is unsafe practices, lack of safety training, and employers trying to cut corners to save money," Harrington said, speaking generally of workplace injuries.
