LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Lexington man was convicted of a 2018 homicide Thursday evening.
A jury convicted Chase Helvey, 26, of Murder, Assault First Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence after four days of trial.
Helvey threatened a woman that he believed owed him money. Using a friend's phone, he lured the woman to Maxwelton Court. When the woman arrived, Helvey appeared from another room and began brutally beating the woman.
He used a wooden object, a gun, and his hands as weapons. The woman suffered serious injuries from the beating. Next, Helvey shot James Potter, the woman’s boyfriend, who was waiting in a car outside.
Potter attempted to drive away from the scene and crashed. He died from his injuries four days later.
Helvey will be sentenced an Oct. 17.
