LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — **WARNING** Graphic content in released LPD body cam footage.

The Lexington Police Department released body camera footage from protests that have taken place over the past couple of weeks.

Brenna Angel, a spokesperson with LPD, said the protests “continue to escalate because of the actions of a few agitators” and described the nightly protests as “weighing on us and our families.”

“But we know this movement is not about our feelings. It is about the people who are hurting, people who were wronged by police officers who swore an oath to protect everyone,” Angel said. “We are not a perfect police department, but we are striving for improvement and transparency. And we are proud that officers have maintained a relatively peaceful environment for protesters to safely exercise their Constitutional rights. Unfortunately, some protesters have continued to escalate their activity to the point where it is illegal and dangerous.”

The videos released span from May 31 to June 12.
