LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Men and women in blue have made Christmas brighter for a lot of children across Lexington.
272 children joined police at the Meijer on Reynolds Road on Saturday morning to take part in shop with a cop, which is an annual holiday shopping spree.
Each child was given a gift card worth $175 to spend on toys and gifts for their families.
Police said that it wouldn't be possible without a whole lot of support from the community.
"We have a lot of different groups that make this possible," said Detective Kristyn Klingshirn. "Obviously, the community donates. Of course, Meijer, we couldn't do it without them. And this year, we were fortunate enough to have a group called Kentucky Supply and Demand. They gave us a large donation that actually allowed us to add 40 more kids than we had last year."
This year's event also received donations from Haix, who provided backpacks, and Bluegrass Cycling Club, which donated $4,000 worth of bicycles.
