The Laurel County Sheriff's Office reports that a pedestrian was hit and killed on I-75 southbound near mile marker 29 on Friday morning.

According to officials, an investigation shows that the pedestrian, identified as 47-year-old James Zeo, walked into the path of a van traveling southbound and was hit in an "unlit" part of the roadway.

Officials say Zeo was pronounced dead at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner's Office.

There were no injuries to the occupant of the van, according to officials.
