SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man accused of killing a Scott County mother and hiding her body in a storage unit in Madison County entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment Monday on charges of murder, robbery and tampering with physical evidence along with other offenses.
Police say 53-year-old Joseph Hicks murdered his ex-girlfriend Sheena Baxter on or about Valentine's Day.
Baxter was missing for several days, until officers in Madison County recovered her body from a storage unit in Richmond. Officials said Baxter's body was found wrapped in plastic.
At Hicks' Monday arraignment, the prosecutor wanted his one-million dollar bond increased. However, his attorney assured the court Hicks could not pay it. The judge left the bond as-is, but is taking it under consideration.
Baxter's sister, Christa Crumley, told Lex18 Hicks is where he belongs.
"It's very satisfying to me to see him at this point, to see where he's at," Crumley said.
Baxter's official cause of death has not been released, but police search warrants showed there was possible evidence of possible bullet holes riddled through his commercial truck.
Hicks' next scheduled court appearance is set for June 1.
