Coroner's office identifies pedestrian killed by vehicle on Man O' War Boulevard

The Fayette County Coroner's Office released the identity of the individual who was hit by a vehicle on Man O' War Boulevard at around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to the coroner's office, 67-year-old Billy Gene Messer died from "multiple blunt force trauma" after a driver "disregarded the traffic signal (red light)," entered the intersection, and than hit Messer while he was crossing the roadway within the "designated crosswalk."

The office detailed that upon arrival, Lexington Fire/EMS found Messer dead.

A pedestrian is dead after being struck by vehicle on Wednesday just before 8:30 a.m. on Man O' War Boulevard, according to the Lexington Police Department.

LPD says that the man was hit in a crosswalk by an SUV that was traveling on the inner loop of Man O' War.

The roadway was closed while CRU investigated the scene but reopened around 10:06 a.m, according to police.

Police say it is unknown at this time if charges will be filed against the driver of the SUV.

LEX 18 on the scene reports that there is a heavy police presence at Beaver Creek Drive and Man O' War Boulevard as of 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
