SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — For the first time an Indiana woman accused in the fatal stabbing of her ex-husband is publicly telling her side of the story.

Cassandra Carson remains locked up in the Scott County jail where she's charged with manslaughter in the stabbing death of her ex-husband. Carson says she is innocent.

The 36-year-old says she was defending herself the night her ex-husband, Matthew Turner, died outside his apartment from a stab wound to his neck. Carson acknowledged that Turner had a protective order against her from Indiana, but claims the two were still together the night of the stabbing.

Carson says Turner has been drinking and assaulted her inside his apartment. In self-defense, she told me she picked up a kitchen knife and tossed it across the room, inadvertently hit him.

Turner's family say they don't believe her for a second. They say they were told that his wound was from close range and behind.

"I just swung it and then I ran out the back door, that's all I did," said Carson.
