LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The 16th annual Fathers and Family Celebration kicked off at Douglass Park at 10 a.m. this morning.

Due to COVID-19, the event was modified to keep everyone safe.

"We're trying to make it as family-friendly as possible even given in light of current circumstances," Damon Mazza with the Lexington Leadership Foundation said.

Instead of the typical event with hundreds of people in the crowd, food, vendors, and more, there was a "daddy drive-thru".

Families arrived in cars and were given t-shirts and a goodie bag with resources and activities for fathers to do with their children.

"A lot of fathers don't get that pat on the back for doing that extra mile to make sure their families get everything they're supposed to have, so what we're trying to do is to showcase them," volunteer Charles Duke said.

Duke said even though the event was different this year, it was important that they kept the 16-year streak going. He wants kids and fathers alike to know that this event is something they can count on every year.
