ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — In a brief arraignment in the Rockcastle Circuit Court over Zoom on Friday morning, George Russell Henshaw II pleaded not guilty to the murder of his stepmother, Lois Henshaw.
He is accused of killing Lois Henshaw on Nov. 9. His attorney, Andrew Long, formally entered the plea on Henshaw's behalf.
Lois's friend, Debbie Hay, was on the Zoom watching carefully.
"I was glad to be able to be a part of that meeting today to be her stand-in," Hay said. "I just felt like I was doing it, watching it for her."
Although the meeting was brief, Hay said it was tough to watch.
"It was a very short time to look at him, but in the seconds that I saw him I was looking in his eyes and I was thinking, how in the world could you do something like this to your stepmother, to your dad's wife to my best friend?" Hay said.
Hay is convinced Henshaw is guilty.
The day after Henshaw's murder, Kentucky State Police reported that Henshaw confessed, but whether he is guilty must be determined in the court of law.
"I have faith in our justice system to make the right decisions for him," Hay said.
Henshaw is due back in "virtual court" on Feb. 12 for a pre-trial conference.
