LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man facing multiple charges in connection to a deadly shooting on Quinton Court in July appeared before a judge Monday.

27-year-old Keith Denton is charged in connection to a shooting on Quinton Court. Officers located 38-year-old Kadage Byishimo, who was taken to the hospital and later died from his injuries.

Investigator William Phillips testified Monday morning and said Denton lived in the apartment above Byishimo.

Phillips said a bullet traveled through the floor of Denton’s apartment into Byishimo’s apartment ceiling. The bullet was from an AR-15 style weapon and the weapon was found behind the apartment building wrapped in a baby blanket believed to be from Denton’s apartment.

A shell casing matching that weapon was also found in a pair of pants believed to be Denton’s.

Witnesses and surveillance video show Denton leaving the apartment complex and driving away minutes after the shooting occurred. A glock handgun was found in Denton’s apartment along with 150g of meth.

When the defense argued the shooting was not intentional, investigators testified Denton had enough knowledge of the weapon to understand what it meant to pull the trigger. Probable cause was found on all charges.

Denton is charged with the following:

  • Murder
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Three Counts of Violation of a Kentucky Protective Order
  • Two Counts of Receiving Stolen Property (Firearms)
  • Trafficking of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Methamphetamine) – Enhanced with a firearm
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana)

A pre-trial date is pending.
