RICHMOND, Ky. (LEX 18) — The daughter of former state representative C. Wesley Morgan has died after a shooting in Richmond.
The shooting happened early Tuesday morning on Willis Branch Road in Richmond. Police say an armed suspect entered the home at around 4:30 a.m. and shots were fired.
Morgan's daughter, Jordan, was killed in the shooting. Jordan's close family friend confirmed the news with LEX 18 calling her a "promising young attorney."
Kentucky State Police say gunshots were then exchanged between the homeowner and intruder. The homeowner sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Jordan's mother, Lisa Foster, said she was "full of so much unconditional love" and "was always working to make others happy."
"Jordan was a vivacious and engaging young woman who had a lot to offer, and it is absolutely heartbreaking that her life would be cut so short in such a tragic way," said T.J. Litafik, a political consultant and lobbyist who worked with Jordan from multiple political campaigns.
Litafik also worked with Jordan in the governor’s office during the early part of the Bevin Administration.
"I think all of us who knew her are just stunned to think of this energetic young woman who was in the prime of her life being struck down in this way," said Litafik. "My heart breaks for her family, and they are in my fervent prayers at this difficult hour. "
Police say the armed suspect left the home after the shooting, and no arrests have been made at this point. Sgt. Purdy is asking anyone that saw or witnessed anything unusual in the area between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m. to call KSP at (859) 623-2404.
