Father of baby arrested after admitting to shaking baby

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A father of a 57-day old baby has been arrested after admitting to shaking the baby to the point where it became unresponsive.

According to Laurel County Sheriff's Office, 27-year-old Christopher Caldwell was arrested on Thursday after admitting to shaking the baby.

On Monday, January 18 at approximately 12:19 PM, deputies and the ambulance service were dispatched to a complaint of a three month old child unresponsive off Monhollen Drive in southern Laurel County.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Deputy Allen Turner began CPR on the baby and was credited with saving the baby. Upon arrival at the scene, the ambulance service worked with the baby, then transported the baby to Baptist Healthcare where the baby was treated and transferred to UK Medical center where the baby continues to receive treatment. Lexington doctors found a brain bleed on the child.

As the investigation continued by Laurel Sheriff's investigators, Caldwell was interviewed and admitted that he shook the baby in an aggressive manner to make the baby stop crying. Christopher Caldwell was charged with assault – first-degree and was lodged in the Laurel County correctional center.
