NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Jessamine County couple is facing charges after police say they put a man’s body inside a garbage can.

Clay Phillips and Tawna Miller were arrested by Nicholasville Police on Tuesday morning. The two are charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

Police say that the couple told them that the man was staying overnight at their home on Strawberry Lane when he died. Police say the couple then brought a trash can inside their home, undressed him, and put his body inside the can. There are no signs of trauma on the body, and an autopsy will be done. Police have not released the victim's name.

Both Phillips and Miller have pleaded not guilty. They will have a preliminary hearing next on Monday, February 1.
