LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Police say that a man left his wallet inside of his vehicle and a thief went on a shopping spree with the stolen cards.

The man who police say took it was caught on camera at a nearby Walmart.

“Being able to swipe those cards, knowing which buttons to push in which order, knowing how to max them out and do everything in that order of operation that he does, this guy has done this many, many times,” said Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department.

Thomas said that the area where the card was stolen from was Covington Point, a nice neighborhood, according to Thomas. He said that no matter where you are, you should be careful with leaving valuables in your vehicle.

“Lock it up!  You could be in the nicest neighborhoods, or the most run-down neighborhoods, it doesn’t matter. these guys are going to find a way to get to what you have,” said Thomas.
