LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Detectives say that Masterson Station Park has become a fertile area for car break-ins.

Police warn that a nice day at the dog park could be ruined if you leave valuables in your car.

“Dog parks are great because they know the victims will be ‘tied up’ and distracted, and anywhere they know people can go on a long track run. Here at Masterson Station, this was the perfect location because we have a lot of tracks that go in and around this area. So they know folks are going to come here, leave valuables in the car and take off,” said Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department.

Two people were caught on camera at a bank trying to cash fraudulent checks and at other stores attempting to purchase things with stolen credit cards. Police believe that they may be from out of town, but that doesn’t mean they have left town yet.

Thomas says that when you come to the park, lock your doors, and if you have to leave items in the car, put them in the truck, or under the seat and out of the field of vision.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest, call the Crime Stoppers tipline at 859-253-2020.
